Grey’s Book Review of 2023

Well, I did it! I completed my 2023 Resolution of reading 1 book per month. I actually read more than 1 book per month, woo-hoo!

Reading has always been one of my favorite pastimes, dating back to The Magic Treehouse and Goosebumps series in elementary school. I love getting to know the characters, transporting to a totally different place, and getting lost in a story. I’ll be HONESTLY reviewing each of the books I read this year and linking them below! Let me know your book recommendations because I think I’m going to keep this Resolution going into 2024!

JANUARY

This was the strangest book I’ve ever read…I was SO CONFUSED throughout the majority of the storyline. I don’t really know why or how I finished this book other than the fact that I was ready for it to be over, LOL.

FEBRUARY

10/10. Loved everything about this book, even with it being so long! The best out of the trilogy in my opinion.

Finished this in 2 days. It was so gripping and thrilling, I literally could not put it down. Such a great read!

Another thrilling, quick read! Freida can do no wrong in my opinion. Definitely read this after The Housemaid!

MARCH

This book was soooooo slow. I think halfway through I was ready to give up because there was so much back and forth without anything exciting happening! However, I did end up finishing it and I really liked it. Overall, I don’t think another 600+ page book was worth this story line but I’m happy I finished it.

So twisted. So good. Finished this in 1 day!

APRIL

Another amazing thriller by Freida. She had me hooked until the very last page. This book had the biggest twist in my opinion!

This one definitely hooked me because of the suspenseful plot, but I have mixed feelings. The ending wasn’t as grand as I expected. Also, the author’s writing style was a little difficult for me to follow at times. Overall, good story but not my favorite.

MAY

An easy read by Colleen Hoover! Not my favorite of hers, but I really enjoyed the storyline.

JUNE

This book is incredible. We read it for small group over the summer and it was extremely eye-opening and thought-provoking. A great read if you’re trying to understand the Lord’s faithfulness and how to overcome negative thoughts!

JULY

I truly hated everything about this book. It was so dark and sad and just terrible in my opinion. I wish I wouldn’t have read it.

AUGUST

This book made me cry happy tears more than once! Each chapter introduces a different story with different characters who are living proof of God’s unconditional love & faithfulness. I loved it.

SEPTEMBER

Twisted. Addictive. Another winner by Freida!

OCTOBER

Another psychological thriller. This one was a little less realistic in my opinion, which I didn’t enjoy, but overall it was a great read with a twisted ending - apparently this is my favorite genre LOL.

A cute, easy read! I really enjoyed the characters in this story. A little cheesy but the super wholesome ending made up for it.

This one was kind of “meh” for me. I still finished it really quickly because of Freida’s writing style, but the plot was pretty stupid in my opinion.

This book was a rollercoaster!!! Twists and turns until the very last page. I LOVED this one.

NOVEMBER

This one was way too similar to Verity by Colleen Hoover for me. Who copied who? The story is exactly the same. At times I got confused because I felt like I had already read certain parts of the story, but it was only because Verity is so similar. Overall, a great read, but I couldn’t get as “into” it as I would’ve liked because of my memories from the other book.

DECEMBER

So weird. Very unrealistic. It was a novella, so I read it in like 30 minutes. A waste of time in my opinion lol.

THIS BOOK KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK!!!! Extremely dark and twisted, with multiple perspectives which I really enjoyed. This was easily my favorite book of the year. Highly recommend. 10/10.

I’ve decided to continue this resolution into 2024, so send me your book recommendations!!
